A pick-up van has run over a student, protesting against Sunday's deaths of two others in a Dhaka road accident. The incident occurred in front of Dania College at Shonir Akhrha on Wednesday when a group of students were asking the drivers to show their license during demonstrations against deaths of two students in a road crash on Sunday.
"A group of students were checking driving licenses blocking the street. A bus was checked and allowed to go just before the van," said 'Sabbir', a Titumir College student who witnessed the incident. "The student waved the pick-up van to stop but the driver ignored him. At that time, an agitated student with a stick stood in front of the van. The driver did not stop the vehicle, ran over the student and drove away."
A student named 'Faysal' was brought from Shonir Akhrha to Pro-Active Medical College Hospital at Jatrabarhi area. Later he was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment. He has fractures in his left leg and waist, and injuries on his face, the doctor said.
He has been supervised by an orthopedist and a surgeon. Faysal is now out of danger and will be supervised by an urologist, Salahuddin said. Iftekharul Alam, senior assistant commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Jatrabarhi police, said they were investigating the incident.
