Janomot report: ASI Ashek Elahi, who was arrested in the Raihan murder case at the Bandarbazar police outpost in Sylhet, has fallen ill on remand.
He was admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital last Friday. Earlier on Thursday, the PBI remanded him in court for five days.
Before the death of Raihan Ahmed, a youth from Akhalia area of Sylhet on the night of October 11, it was alleged that torture was carried out under the leadership of Akbar Hossain, the outpost in-charge of Bandarbazar.
On that night, some policemen took Raihan to the Bandarbazar outpost and demanded a bribe of Tk 10,000. On the phone, Raihan asked the family members to bring money. On the morning of October 11, his family members went to the police station with Tk 5,000 and found out that he had been admitted to Osmani Medical College Hospital due to illness. Family members went there to hear that Raihan was dead.
