In the face of the movement, the Bus Owners' Association has decided to take half fare from the students while traveling in the capital's bus transports.
Khandaker Enayet Ullah, secretary general of the Road Transport Owners Association, said this at a press conference on Tuesday.
He said, “This decision will be effective from Wednesday. However, half fare will not be taken on holidays. Besides, some more conditions have been given to the students.”
The press conference on the issue of half fare for students was held at the office of the Bus Owners' Association in the capital's Ramna around 11 am.
The bus owners' association is also imposing certain conditions like the conditions given for effective half fare on BRTC buses. The conditions are almost the same.
Students must carry a valid identity card of their respective educational institution in the privately owned bus as well as in the BRTC bus while traveling. If necessary, it must be displayed. In case of BRTC bus service, students will give half fare from 7 am to 8 pm and the same time has been fixed for privately owned buses.
Besides, half fare is limited to Dhaka only, not for other districts, said Khandaker Enayet Ullah.
