AL resorting to tricks to stay in power: Mosharraf

Awami League (AL) will not prevail in the next general election, so they have started resorting to various tricks to stay in power, BNP Standing Committee Member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said on Saturday.

"The incumbent Awami League (AL) government has again resorted to arrest and harassment of BNP leaders and activists in 'false cases' to forcibly hold onto power," Dr Mosharraf said at a rally in front of the BNP headquarters at Nayapaltan in the capital.

"However, this time AL will not prevail. . . so they are planning various tricks," the former health minister added.

The rally was held to press home the BNP's 10-point demand, including holding the next polls under a non-party neutral government, protesting against the arrest and harassment of party leaders and activists in 'false cases,' and demanding BNP leader Rafiqul Alam Mojnu's release.

BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas, Dhaka Metropolitan North unit Convener Amanullah Aman, and standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed, among others, also spoke at the event chaired by BNP Dhaka Metropolitan South unit Convener Abdus Salam.
