CEC calls for political parties to sit for dialogue

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has urged the political parties to sit at one table to resolve the ongoing political crisis.
He said this to reporters after an hour-long meeting with US Ambassador Peter Haas at the Election Commission building in Agargaon in the capital on Tuesday morning.
CEC said, “Favorable environment is necessary for holding elections. The crisis that prevails is political and there is no conflict with our work. But if the issues are resolved politically, it will be very comfortable for us to hold elections.”
He said many issues are being discussed in the political sphere and those need to be addressed at any cost for holding the next election in a stable environment.
Regarding the meeting with Peter Haas, the CEC said, "We said, they [the US] also believe, that dialogue between political parties is necessary (to solve the problem). Without dialogue, these crises cannot really be resolved on the streets. The commission feels that political parties should sit at one table. They should drink tea together. Then they can try to resolve the crisis through negotiation.”
