Sangram Datta: The funeral function of Soumitra Dev Tito, editor and publisher of the online based news portal named RedTimes.com, renowned writer and poet has been completed in Moulvibazar district town on April-15.
Soumitra Dev Tito, an eminent poet, literary and journalist figure passed away at 9 AM on April -15, 2025.
He left behind his wife, only son, three sisters and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.
His wife Paula Dev rushed him to the Kurmitola Hospital in Dhaka and the attending doctor declared him dead when his health condition deteriorated in the morning on Tuesday. He had been suffering from asthma and respiratory complexities.
He was born on 27 July 1970 in Moulvibazar district town. His parents were Sushital Dev and Maya Dev respectively. His ancestral home is at Uchail village of Kulaura upazila in Moulvibazar district.
From the 1990s, he entered in the profession of poetry, literature, and journalism.
Several years ago, He obtained a diploma degree on journalism from Bangladesh Press Institute.
Besides being a poet and journalist, He was also politically conscious. He contested as mayoral candidate nominated by the Workers Party in the Moulvibazar municipality election in some years ago.
Earlier, He served as an assistant editor of the daily Manab Zamin In his professional life.
He published about 40 books as an author and editor.
He was the founding president of the Jalalabad Journalists Association in Dhaka.
On 19 October 2024, Noted journalist Soumitra Dev was attacked and wounded by a group of men when a writer's group led by he and others tried to stage a rally in front of Jatiya Press Club in the Dhaka city condemning the cancellation of March 7 and August 15 as national days
A wave of mourning swept across the entire Moulvibazar district when the news of his death spread in the morning.
The coffin of the writer was brought to the Shaheed Minar Premises at Moulvibazar district town where politicians, cultural personalities, activists and others converged on that area to bid adieu to him.
Hundreds of people from all walks of life paid their last tribute to renowned poet and writer Soumitra Dev Tito by showering flowers on his coffin at the Shaheed Minar in Moulvibazar district town.
