CA Yunus to attend UN General Assembly with four politicians

Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the chief adviser, will be accompanied by four politicians to the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The delegation includes BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Amir Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) Secretary General Akhtar Hossain, and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman's foreign affairs advisor Humayun Kabir.

They are set to depart for the United States on the night of September 21 and return on October 2.
Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain announced this at a press conference held at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Wednesday afternoon.
He highlighted that including opposition party leaders in the delegation is a first, as previous UN delegations typically comprised only ruling party ministers and leaders. This inclusion reflects the future role of politicians in governing the country.
When asked about potential meetings with US President Donald Trump, Md. Touhid Hossain noted that some meetings may be added or cancelled during such visits.
A key focus of the trip will be Rohingya repatriation.
Md. Touhid Hossain mentioned that Dr. Yunus had previously called for a high-level meeting on this issue, and it will be a significant topic at the UN General Assembly.
Following the UN Secretary-General’s visit to the Rohingya camp and increased representation, the discussion will carry special importance.
Additionally, Dr. Yunus will speak at an event about the journey to democracy, showcasing the government’s initiatives over the past year and highlighting the expectations of youth and civil society.
Addressing concerns about potential harassment during foreign trips, Md. Touhid Hossain referenced a recent incident involving Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md. Mahfuz Alam in London.
He clarified that Mahfuz was not in the car that was harassed and that advance preparations had been made.
In New York, police maintain a three-foot distance while performing duties, and protests are not restricted unless sabotage occurs, in which case police act swiftly.
Such incidents, he noted, are not uncommon in New York and are difficult to prevent.
