In a historic achievement for Bangladesh, seasoned tourism and hospitality expert Mohammad Zahirul Islam, widely known as Dalton Zahir, has become the first Bangladeshi member of SKAL International Madrid, marking a significant milestone in the organization’s 90-year history and the 70-year history of its Madrid chapter.
Dalton Zahir was honored with his membership certificate during a recent colloquium lunch at the Puerta de America hotel, attended by Japan’s Ambassador, Takahiro Nakamae, and Economic Affairs, Transport, and Tourism Advisor Mai Sasaki. SKAL International Madrid is part of a global network of tourism professionals established in 1934, aimed at fostering business relationships, networking, and camaraderie within the industry. Members, including tourism managers and executives, convene to discuss industry challenges, promote sustainable tourism, and create mutually beneficial connections.
Ramon Adillon, President of SKAL Madrid, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We warmly welcome Dalton as our first Bangladeshi member. It is also an honor to congratulate him on his recent appointment as President of the International Ecotourism Society Philippines Inc. for Portugal and Head of Europe. His 24 years of experience in the tourism and hospitality sectors will be invaluable.”
In another proud moment for Bangladesh, Dalton Zahir has been appointed President of Portugal and Head of Europe for the International Ecotourism Society (TIES) for the 2025–2028 term. This appointment was confirmed by Ms. Vilma D. C. Mendoza, CEO of Mart Evers and Founder of TIES Philippines Inc. In her announcement, she expressed confidence in Zahir’s ability to enhance the global ecotourism landscape through strategic branding and development initiatives over the next three years.
With over 24 years of diverse experience in hospitality, tourism, public relations, media, and international business development, Zahir is recognized for his expertise in communications, branding, sales, marketing, operations, and business setup across various global markets. He currently serves as the President of the International Ecotourism Society Philippines Inc. for Portugal and Head of Europe, Co-Chairman of the Standing Committee on Civil Aviation and Tourism of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), and Director of the Tourism Developers Association of Bangladesh (TDAB).
As the founder and CEO of multiple ventures, including Traveller Key, Europe Key, Traveller Times, Welcome Bangladesh, and World Vacation Club, Zahir operates across various countries. His previous roles include Head of Sales and Marketing at BRAC Services Ltd. (BSL) and positions at leading hospitality establishments such as Rose View Hotel, Grand Sultan Tea Resort and Golf, Ocean Paradise, and Lakeshore Hotel. He has also collaborated with global tech brands like Motorola, Apple, Philips, and Fujifilm.
A passionate advocate for Bangladesh’s tourism potential, Zahir has worked tirelessly to showcase the country’s scenic beauty, rich cultures, and culinary heritage to the global travel community. His visionary approach has been pivotal in promoting sustainable and experience-driven tourism models.
Zahir has traveled extensively across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, visiting over 35 countries and participating in numerous international tourism expos and forums, including ITB Berlin, WTM London, and India’s Travel & Tourism Fair. He is an active member of several international organizations, including the Photographic Society of America, Tourism Developers Association of Bangladesh, Tour Operator Association of Bangladesh, World Travellers Club Ltd., European American Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Pacific Asia Travel Association (New York Chapter), and SKAL International Madrid. He also serves as an advisor to the Portugal-Bangladesh Friendship Association and member the Tourism Alliance Society (TAS).
