Sangram Datta: Nordic Day 2026 was jointly observed by the Nordic embassies of Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway in Dhaka, bringing together diplomacy, culture and shared values under this year’s theme, “Inclusive Societies, Stronger Together.”
The celebration highlighted the spirit of cooperation that has long defined the Nordic region and its engagement with partners around the world, including Bangladesh. Nordic Day commemorates the signing of the Helsinki Treaty in 1962, a milestone that laid the foundation for formal Nordic cooperation. Over the decades, this collaboration has been guided by core principles such as democracy, sustainability, gender equality, minority rights, inclusive societies, respect for international law and a strong commitment to multilateralism, all of which were central to this year’s message.
The 2026 celebration showcased the strength of Nordic unity and the growing collaboration between the Nordic countries and Bangladesh in advancing inclusive development and shared global goals. Reflecting this partnership, the event was honoured by the presence of the Honourable Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Ms. Syeda Rizwana Hasan, who attended as the Chief Guest.
Guests enjoyed a vibrant programme featuring traditional Nordic cuisine and music, while the event also provided a welcoming space for dialogue, cultural exchange and meaningful connections. The evening underscored how cooperation across borders can foster mutual understanding and collective progress.
The Nordic embassies expressed sincere appreciation to Swedish companies ABB, Atlas Copco Group, Ericsson, H&M, MGH Healthcare and MGH Logistics for their generous support, which helped make the celebration possible.
As Nordic Day 2026 was marked in Dhaka, the message was clear and widely shared: inclusive societies grow stronger when nations work together.
